90010/l ashtray made of 18/10 stainless steel. Very elegant and compact, this ashtray is not a functional object, as it allows the ash to descend simply by lifting the upper part, but it can be also a piece of furniture, because of the elegant design. The perfect accessory for the elegance lovers. It is a charming gift-idea! Designed by Marianne Brandt for Alessi.
90010/l ashtray belong to a serie of objects of the Bauhaus. Founded by Walter Gropius in Weimar in 1919, the Bauhaus (House of Building) was a German school of arts, architecture and applied arts, which at the time represented the gathering and decanting point of all emerging avant-gardes in these fields. Contrasted first by the conservative circles of Weimer (for which he moved to Dessau) and then by Nazism, it closed after only 14 years of activity. For the high quality of the characters who taught and studied there (arianne Brandt, Marcel Breuer o Johannes Itten) to taught there (Paul Klee e Wassili Kandinski), as well as for the radical approach to design, the Bauhaus is at the origin of the Modern Movement in Design and Architecture. Since the mid-1980s, Alessi has reproduced, under license from the Bauhaus Archiv in Berlin; a selection of projects created by some of the school's main protagonists. 90010/l can therefore be considered a historical object, which despite the age of the design always presents itself as an elegant accessory and "a blast with the times".
