Mona Hatoum is an internationally renowned designer, known for her artistic imprint, which is realized in a long series of initiatives, including sculptures, photographs and works on paper. Over the years, his interest shifts towards the development of a language in which domestic and everyday objects are often transformed into extraneous, surreal meanings. The most used element in Mona Hatoum's creations is the keffiyeh, the traditional Arab headdress, a powerful symbol of Palestine. The keffiyeh coincides both with a symbol of peace and closeness on the one hand, of rebellion and rupture on the other; two poles enclosed within the same geometric pattern. Also for the realization of the Illy Art Collection, our designer uses this element: she used an abstraction of the fishing net and olive leaf design of the Arab headdress, which is combined with hard work and interconnectivity.
