The Cal collection is a true tribute to the precursor of abstract painting, the way he revolutionised our conception of art. Nani Marquina wanted to pay homage to the father of those sculptures known as moblies, Alexander Calder, with a splendid line of carpets. Mobiles are kinetic structures, hung in such a way that the slightest movement of one part causes the other parts of the sculpture to move, creating a chain reaction. Fascinating, light and playful, these works turn into fantastic carpets by Nanimarquina, in a colourful collection that fascinates at first sight. Available in three different patterns and two colours, Cal carpets offer dynamic combinations, alternating cool and warm tones. Just as Sadler's sculptures excite through movement in space, Nanimarquina's carpets convey the essence of dynamism to the floor. All rugs are made of New Zealand wool, using the hand-quilting technique. this technique requires a tool similar to a gun to pierce the fibre threads in a fabric previously stretched in a loom. To start the process, the strands are perforated in areas marked by the mapping, then the protruding strands are cut and shaved to achieve the desired hair height. The design is created with scissors or a needle and, once the pattern is defined, a layer of latex is applied to the bottom of the carpet so that the threads remain attached to the structure.
