Kala, in Indian, means "tomorrow" and "art." This particular term gives its name to a collection that combines Indian culture and design, looking at it through the eyes of children, the future. Created from original designs by students of the Care & Fair charity schools in India, the Kala collection donates €150 of every carpet sold to the Amita school in Bhadohi, run by the same organization. Nanimarquina collaborates since 2002 with Care & Fair, a worldwide association founded in 1994 to combat child labor and improve the quality of life of carpet manufacturers and their families in India. Kala rugs are available in different sizes and are all made of 100% virgin wool. The technique used to make them is hand quilting: this technique requires a tool similar to a gun to pierce the fiber threads, in a fabric previously stretched in a loom. To start the process, the threads are pierced in areas marked by the mapping, then the protruding threads are cut and shaved to achieve the desired pile height. The pattern is created with scissors or a needle, and once the pattern is defined, a layer of latex is applied to the bottom of the rug so that the threads remain attached to the structure. As icing on the cake, another layer of fabric is also applied to act as a cover. Make a gesture of solidarity, choose Kala rugs! Browse the other fantastic products by Nanimarquina here on Newpop.it!
