Blur, a collection created by designer brothers Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec for the Spanish brand Nanimarquina, represents a step forward in carpet making techniques. Their mastery, meticulousness and tireless ability to always have new visions led them to work on Blur, a collection that offers two different readings. Looking at the carpet from a distance, one notices an indefinite, blurred surface, which gives the collection its name. However, as you get closer to the carpet, rhythmic lines and rhombuses in different proportions reveal themselves, in the purest kinetic style. Blend carpets are kilim carpets, durable and hardwearing carpets woven with the hand looming technique. This technique consists of a flat-patterned carpet in which the warp threads attached to the main loom are interwoven with the weft threads. One of the main characteristics of this technique is that the weft is much tighter and denser than the warp, making it bear the weight of the design. The resulting blurred effect is achieved by reversing the direction in which kilims are traditionally woven, which makes the process much more laborious. This change in texture blurs the lines, mixing two colours unevenly, creating an aged carpet, reminiscent of the past.
